Man this would be a nice addition to someone's collection of Yamaha memorabilia. Lots of smaller reproductions of this sign. But I'm pretty sure this is an original.
Not mine.....

I deleted the add based on the comments that followed.
I won't say "absolutely not" that these tin and porcelain signs are copies of some older vintage signs, simply because I can't prove it. . . . . but seems to me they only started appearing just a few short years ago, and I've never seen any evidence of them anywhere, EVER, before. I think these would fall into the realm of modern day nostalgia . . . made for those that are looking to dress up their Man Cave, Shop, or Garage. If someone is trying to pass them off as vintage or nos, that seems like a rather shady seller to me.
I do not know if Yamaha released this sign back in the day. I noticed the gas and oil tanks have the 76 graphics, but the oil tank lettering is in black. The 76 model had white lettering. The 75 had black lettering. Also, the 75 black lettering said Enduro 400, while the 76 just said enduro. What MarkT said sounds very plausible, I do not think Yamaha would release a sign with those errors. People often try to make a buck dishonestly.

Hate to say this but it looks like there are a ton of these signs on ebay... every one I looked at had similar "distressed" mounting holes and "flaws"... cheapest one was from India at $120 shipped.
Great sign, but it sure looks like they might be reproductions? (or even completely new... Enduronut would probably know if Yamaha had signs like this in 1976...)
I saw a show on the History channel a while back where they said vintage porcelain sign prices have dropped dramatically because there are so many "fakes" out there... prices of originals were insane and many people won't hesitate to buy a reproduction for decoration since the originals got so expensive. Now the prices on originals have dropped 50% or more.
Yes there are a ton of these signs on eBay that are reproductions in a much smaller diameter and they are made from thin tin. They also sell them at Hobby Lobby which is where I bought mine on sale for $10. 😊
Check out that sellers eBay store. He must be a busy guy if his collection is all fakes.

He has a few neutral and negative feedback that all seem to claim the signs are "reproductions". If you read the sellers responses to the negative feedback, they are not only nasty but worded very carefully... A "vintage sign" technically could have been made yesterday. Buy it from whoever is making the reproductions and now it's "pre-owned". Hang it on the wall once, and now it's technically "used".
Also, I read though some of the ads and there is one GLARING omission in all of them. True collectors almost always have a story. I did not see one story of "I found this on an old barn in Illinois" or any story at all.
There are several sellers in India advertising the same/similar signs... they have that same Yamaha sign and it's 30" diameter. I'm pretty sure India is the source of the reproductions. They are good at it and it is killing the market value of actual original signs. https://www.ebay.com/usr/dmanz-999

Wow!
I like my $10 Hobby Lobby even more now!
