Hi So I have a 1971 Yamaha RT1-B I had to replace the original flange carb with a VM 32 with a pod filter. I am having a hard time Jetting. Would anyone have suggestions with the jetting
Thank you for your advice. I purchased a kit for a 1974 DT360 but I found it was to rich. In my area it will be hard to find someone with the experience to work on a carbonated bike. I bought a 32 from mikunioz and it came kind of close. I will figure it out with time.
I can give you some general advise, but finding an experienced local tuner, is probably your best bet.
Ideally, someone who's done this exact carburetor swap will come along and tell you the optimal jetting specs you need, but I rather doubt that's going to happen.
I feel for you, as jetting can be a real exercise in patience for even someone with lots of experience and knowledge of the topic . . . . and especially when starting from scratch with a carb that wasn't even designed around your particular application.
I might also add, experienced tuners generally shy away from giving too much "specific" advise, as there's always the risk of being blamed if the owner burns his motor up in the process.
There are some general guidelines and/or step by step procedures to jetting carburetors which you can find through searching online .... even specifically for the Mikuni VM series.
Basically, proper tuning will likely only be accomplished via correctly interpreting the burn of your spark plug, (and then making the appropriate jetting corrections) . . . and by some seat of your pants testing. It's a trial and error process, but it's much easier if you have knowledge and experience on the subject.
