I have recently purchased all of the necessary chemicals and equipment to do my own zinc plating, mostly for nuts and bolts. What i am interested to know is, were any parts besides handlebars and suspension on a DT1 chrome plated? or all bright zinc plated?
Perhaps the brake actuating arms and wheel axels were chrome plated as well? rear axle adjusters, kick starter arm, headlight rim? anything else?
I did all the plating on this bike my self three years ago.
On a flick back to the plating, use deionised water for everything and I found that aeration of the tank, along with keeping it at a good temperature and in a dry an atmosphere as possible, gives the best results. Buy extra AZ brightener too as you lose strength and fluid by evaporation from your solution.
Do you also know you can buy all the chrome bolts, washers and the like from Endearing cycles in TX and they are quite reasonably priced. The headlamp bazal screw is chrome too.
Funny thing is,if you buy that part from Yamaha,it comes plated black which is bloody annoying!
So,I do alot of plating at home. I have found that even some 69 bikes have chrome plated lever pivots! I found that out when I started stripping the plate off and found copper plate underneath. I have chromed the headlamp basal, clock bodies, gear selector pedal, rims, rear bearing cover ,axles and some of the top yoke bolts. Everything else is bright zinc. Make sure everything is scrupulously clean for the best results.
It's more than I thought, the headlight bolts and front fender hardware is chrome also
Quick look around looks like tripple clamp bolts, axles and axel nuts, clutch and fr. brake perch bolts all chrome
The handle bar clamp bolts and the shock bolts are chrome, the rest are zink, I could be off by a couple, don't have an assembled '70 model to look at
Which year of DT1 is it? Some years there were changes like engine cases were painted or polished.
