I have a 1978 GTMXE that has never been started, has never had gas in the tank and still has all original parts. It was originally purchased by a department store for a display. Looking for advice on where to sell to get the most money. Thanks!

Welcome,
I agree that Kaplan's bikes get a lot of views, and there is a good chance he will list it on eBay. The people that buy the bikes are places like here. It is free to list your bike here, you won’t be charged a seller’s fee for the sale. So, feel free to list it here (if you want). I might be interested in the bike.
If you have any pictures, it would be cool to see it. WE LOVE PICTURES! People will be skeptical as Schu mentioned, but the pictures would back up the story. Members here, worked at Yamaha and many guys here saw these bikes on the showroom floor in person, and it would be hard to "fake it" because they saw the original factory finishes and can tell the real thing from a restoration.
I don’t mean to highjack your thread.
I purchased a 1976 Yamaha DT100C with 2.9 original miles. It was won by a radio contest, driven to the garage and parked for 40+ years. I posted an 11-minute video in the 1976 DT100C section with other webpages talking about the bike. Everything is original except the battery. So, I know it is possible to have other bikes with similar stories out there.
Based on your story of the bike, most people won't offer what it is really worth. But you might try reaching out to Kaplan Cycles. He seems to thrive on bikes that have a background like yours. I have zero experience with Kaplan. So this is simply a suggestion and not a recommendation.
